How to Spot Fake Makeup and Skincare in Pakistan

By · Updated · 2 min read

Counterfeit cosmetics are common in Pakistan, from open markets to social-media sellers. Fakes may contain unsafe dyes, bacteria or heavy metals. Here's how to protect yourself.

1. The price is too good to be true

Genuine products rarely sell at less than half the usual price. Big "imported" discounts on premium brands are the biggest red flag.

2. Check the packaging closely

  • Blurry printing, uneven fonts or spelling mistakes.
  • Loose or missing seals and shrink-wrap.
  • Colours that differ from the brand's official photos.

3. Look for batch codes and expiry dates

Original products have a batch code printed or embossed on both the box and the product, and they should match. Many products also show a "period after opening" symbol (an open jar with 6M, 12M, etc.).

4. Check for the importer's details

Legitimately imported products usually carry a sticker with the importer or distributor's name and address in Pakistan.

5. Test texture and smell

A strange chemical smell, separated formula, gritty texture or colour that doesn't match swatches can mean a fake or expired product. Stop using it immediately if you notice irritation.

Where to buy safely

Buy from the brand's official stores, authorised distributors or retailers who can explain their sourcing and offer a refund guarantee. Read our authenticity guarantee to see exactly how we source and check every product.

Frequently asked questions

Are products on social media pages original?

Some are, many are not. Ask the seller where they source from, check the batch code and importer sticker on delivery, and prefer sellers that offer a written refund guarantee.

What happens if I use fake makeup?

Fake cosmetics can cause allergic reactions, rashes, breakouts and eye infections. Stop using the product and consult a dermatologist if irritation continues.
